Lambing Day Article.
Yesterday at approximately 1:00pm down the farm at Brockhill park performing arts college, the ewes were producing lambs. Myself, Joe and Claire saw the lambs with their mothers. There were two of them that had been born on the 22nd March.
The ewes have started to give birth to the baby lambs. The time they started to give birth to their lambs was 6:30pm on the 21st/22nd March.
We interviewed Donna Hawke’s today and asked her some questions about the ewes and lambs.
How many lambs do your sheep give birth to each year/how does this make you feel when you see a new life being brought into the world.
Donna quoted that at the school farm, they have about 30 lambs born every year. She also told us that when she see’s a new lamb being born it is a very special moment for her and overall it is just a beautiful experience.
Is it a once in a lifetime experience?
For many students it is a once in a lifetime opportunity but because she has worked on the farm with the animals for 25 years it is a natural thing that happens every year.
Do some of the lambs that are given birth to have any type of problems when they are born; for example, do they have any sort of disability or feeding problems?
Donna says to our station that sometimes the lambs are in the wrong position for the ewes to give birth so the members of staff that work on the farm have to help them out with this. It is a very rewarding thing when the lambs come out as alive and healthy.
Our interview ended with Donna once we had asked her about the lambing event. The lambing day event this year will be held on the 3rd April. The public should attend this event because it is good for the people to see what students and members of staff who attend Brockhill Park do on the farm.
