Letter to Parents and Students 7th October
Dear Parents and students,
Thank you for your support of your child and all your hard work this week.
This week has been a very busy and productive week for students.
As well as the importance of kindness we are emphasising the value of volunteering to our students as they prepare to take up their place as adult members of our society.
On Monday, Year 9 students volunteered at an intergenerational community drop in at Saltwood Lads’ Club and then with a dementia support group in Hythe today, whilst year 10 students attended a Youth Summit at the University of Kent on Wednesday, where they learnt about genomes and genetics.
We finish the week with a visiting author running workshops involving our Years 8, 9 10, 11 and the Sixth Form.
It has also been an absolute pleasure to recognise the achievements of 683 of our students, who continued with their learning during August and submitted assignments after the summer holiday.
We will soon be asking teachers to nominate students for commendation on the basis of consistent submission of their personal best home and classwork assignments.
Prior to the summer, we worked with our caterers to make a number of changes to the food offer and quality at school. We are delighted that the quality of food served is now consistently high and proving very popular with the whole school community. The main meal and dessert are priced at £2.50p and available to all. A free breakfast is also available to students from the Saga canteen until 8.25am.

Next Friday, we will start to send texts to parents where a student has not submitted Homework, despite a deadline extension. We will do this initially in English, Maths and Science.
More detail about our approach to Homework and recommended durations was set out in my letter of September 23rd. From letter of September 23rd
Student well-being and welfare will be our priority with students this year, and we will be particularly attentive to this as our older students approach Public Examinations.
Yours sincerely
