Letter to Parents 18th October
October 18th 2021
Dear Parents / Guardians
Thank you for all your support of your children and us.
We will end this week by sending out commendations to students, who have worked very well since their return in September and / or over the summer holiday. Commendations are awarded on the basis of the number of teacher nominations a student receives.
Since we returned in September we have had 85 students and 5 members of staff test positive for COVID-19. We are not aware that this is either a larger or smaller number than in other schools but have taken the view that we will always communicate any positive cases to all parents immediately. Many of the students have been asymptomatic and identified by in school testing. Where we have positive cases in a class we have often retested the class on the following day. Before the end of this week we will provide all students with sufficient Lateral Flow Tests to carry out testing once weekly at home until the end of term in December. In respect of COVID-19 vaccination for students, please see Friday’s NHS letter.
We would like to remind parents and students that mobile phones should be turned off and in the bottoms of bags during Tutor time and lessons. Students must not use mobile phones before break or lunch when use will be permitted. This means that mobile phones should remain in students’ bags when moving between lessons. Students must not wear or carry headphones or ear pods in school at any time. Students must only wear a black or dark blue waterproof – non leather – coat. Where students do not meet our clear expectations we may confiscate the items and request parents attend school by appointment to pick them up.
Please ensure your daughter or son chooses a book from our Digital Library and reads each day for at least 20 minutes. Research evidence is very clear in respect of students who read daily understanding and achieving so much more highly across their school subjects.
If you did not receive your weekly Guardian Summary in respect of your daughter or son’s learning last week please contact us and we will resend an invitation.
As previously communicated, students will be learning remotely on Friday, October 22nd and again on Monday, November 1st. No student should attend school on Friday, October 22nd or Monday, November 1st. Work will be set in Google Classroom and students should stick to their normal timetable for the two days.
Parents of Year 11, please ensure you have information about our Sixth Form Open Evening on Tuesday, November 2nd. We have also provided information about this to the students.
Yours Sincerely,
Sonette Schwartz Charles Joseph
Executive Principal Principal
