Letter to Parents 4th March 2022
March 4th 2022
Dear Parents / Guardians
At the moment of writing we have raised £1500 for the humanitarian work of the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal with more money still to count. Students have been very concerned by the news from Ukraine and want very much to show their continued support. We have worked with students today in our Family Friday session around how they / we can best manage anxieties around this and other situations.
We have also taken the opportunity to again ask all our students to show kindness to each other and everybody they encounter – to include their online activities. Please take some time to go through the relevant Online safety guide below with your daughter or son and take the opportunity to discuss with them what steps to take to remain safe online.
Our latest and new Digital Library contains a range of exciting and enjoyable books to read for each year Group from Years 7 – 13. We want to encourage all our students to choose and read a book for pleasure for at least 20 minutes a day. Research evidence is clear that students, who read daily, understand and achieve so much more highly across their school subjects.
Since we returned on Tuesday, February 22nd we have had 33 students and 3 members of staff test positive for COVID-19. Many have been asymptomatic and identified by in school or home testing. A very rough calculation suggests infection rates are running at just under half of that of last half-term. This is good news, but the numbers are still significant, and we remain cautious. We continue to support and encourage students to wear face coverings in class and have reminded them that they still need to wear them on school transport for the moment.
Please remember to keep ordering Lateral Flow Test Kits for your family, as it has been widely reported these will no longer be distributed at nil cost from the end of this month. Order Rapid Lateral Flow Tests
Parents of Years 11, 12 & 13 students, please ensure they attend After School Revision Sessions in English, Mathematics and Science for Years 11 and for all A level subjects in Years 12 & 13 as per our Letter of January 28th.
