Letter to parents 18th March

March 18th 2022

Dear Parents / Guardians

Thank you for your support in getting the students into school punctually each day and ready to learn with all the necessary equipment. This support helps us run smoothly. Students have had a busy week in and out of the classroom and today we hosted a number of students from other schools for a ‘Maths Feast.’

At the moment of writing, we have raised £1000 for Comic Relief with more money still to count. This is in addition to the £1800 we raised for the Ukraine appeal on March 4th. We are proud of our students and how they have engaged around the life situation of others, near and far, through our non-uniform days this half-term. In Daily Tutor Time this week, we have taken the opportunity to discuss how today’s donations to Comic Relief will be used.

We would like to remind you that students will be learning remotely on Friday, April 1st and again on Tuesday, April 19th with work set in Google Classroom for all students. Students should stick to their normal timetable and work on those tasks on those days and submit all work at the end of each day. Teachers will also set Homework Assignments in Google Classroom as per the Homework Timetable. No live online lessons will take place with teachers. No student should attend school on Friday, April 1st or Tuesday, April 19th.

We will write separately next week to parents of Years 11 and 13 students about the Parents’ Consultation Day on April 1st, to parents of Year 9 students about their Parents’ Consultation Day on Tuesday, April 19th and to parents of Year 8 students about the Learning Pathways event on Tuesday, April 26th. All these events will run virtually.

An extra day’s holiday has been granted to schools on account of Her Majesty, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We will take that day on Friday, July 22nd and the last day of the school year will be Thursday, July 21st.

Since we returned to school on Tuesday, February 22nd we have had 97 students and 7 members of staff test positive for COVID-19 – IE 35 more students and 4 more members of staff since March 11th. Many have been asymptomatic and identified by in school or home testing. We continue to support and encourage students to wear face coverings in class and have reminded them that they still need to wear them on school transport for the moment.

Please encourage your daughter or son to sign up and attend at least 1 lunchtime club per week: Lunchtime Clubs 2021 / 2022 and to choose and read a book for pleasure for at least 20 minutes a day. Digital Library spring Term

A number of sporting activities and trips in the local area are now taking place, and students in Dance, Drama and Music are preparing for performances later this and next term.

Yours Sincerely,

Sonette Schwartz                                 Charles Joseph
