Letter to Parents 4th October 2024

October 4th 2024

Dear Parents

Thank you for all your support of your children and of us this week.

Again, students have had a very busy week earning 3089 merit Excellent Effort Points this week as of the end of lunchtime today. This is in addition to the 373 commendations we sent earlier this half term to parents whose students engaged with and submitted with tasks from their summer subject work packs.

If your child has not received recognition yet for their effort in class, please talk to them and encourage them to go ‘that extra mile.’ Teachers want to recognise and reward every student.

On Monday, 30 Year Animal Care students visited and completed assignments at Wildwood, and on Thursday 49 Drama students in Years 9 – 12 watched a performance of Murder on the Orient Express at the Marlowe Theatre.

We have again been emphasising the importance of punctuality to school in the mornings and of personal organisation in our conversations with students this week. Where students are regularly late, this is disruptive to teaching and learning, and we have issued sanctions to students concerned. Please ensure you can access the SIMs Parent App, and if you have any problems doing so, please contact us at office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. We hope texts sent enable a dialogue between at home about Homework and between school and parents, where helpful. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject.

In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

Please encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. They can try something new and make new friends, or even just go along to a club they already know with their existing friends. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.

Our Performing and Visual Arts Calendar sets out the performances and exhibition scheduled for this academic year. It takes a lot of determination and hard work for a young person to perform to a live audience or produce Art or Photography work for exhibition, and we owe so much to the teachers, who lead, encourage and support this work. We want to all our students in Years 7 – 13 to read for pleasure for 20 minutes a day. Students who read daily develop their understanding and achieve so much more highly across their school subjects.

Digital Library Autumn Term 1st half 2024-2025

Yours sincerely,

Charles Joseph

Principal
