Letter to Parents 11th October 2024

October 11th 2024

Dear Parents

We have awarded 4016 Excellent Effort Points as of the end of morning break today. Behind each one of these lies vital family support. Thank you, parents and families for all your support and encouragement!

Learning beyond the classroom is so important as well, and yesterday, Mr Tree accompanied Sixth Form Sports Studies students to the Ashford Stour Centre where they met with Ryan Raghoo (T36 Olympic Long Jumper), Callie-Ann Warrington (S10 Swimmer, Olympic Silver Medallist), and Victoria Ohuruogu (4x400m Runner, Olympic Bronze Medallist) for a ‘Strength in Mind’ conference.

By the end of today, our 120 Year 11 Geographers will have completed their GCSE Geography fieldwork at Stratford Westfield shopping centre.

Punctuality and personal organisation are vital life skills, and we speak regularly to students about this. Where students are regularly late, this is disruptive to the teaching and learning of all.

Please ensure you can access the SIMs Parent App, and if you have any problems doing so, please contact us at office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. We hope texts sent enable a dialogue at home about Homework and between school and parents, where helpful. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject. In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

Please encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.

As per our calendar, students will carry out their learning at home on line Thursday, October 24th and Monday, November 4th. They will work on and submit assignments, which will be set in Google Classroom. Friday, October 25th school is closed for a Staff Development Day. No student should attend school on these days. We will look forward to welcoming students back to on site learning at Brockhill on Tuesday, November 5th. Parent Subject Consultation Days will take place online for Years 11 & 13 on Thursday, October 24th and Years 10 & 12 on Monday, November 4th.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening for Year 11 students and their parents takes place on site on Tuesday, November 12th.  During the evening, we will be talking about post 16 applications and study in general and at Brockhill Park Sixth Form in particular. We will write separately to Year 11 parents about this next week. NB – please do not confuse this event with the online Year 11 Parents’ Subject Consultation Day, on Thursday, October 24th. We will write separately to parents in Years 10, 11, 12 & 13 about all these events.

Yours sincerely,

Charles Joseph

Principal
