Letter to Parents 18th October 2024

  October 18th 2024

Dear Parents

We have awarded 3659 Excellent Effort Points as of the end of lunchtime today. Behind each one of these lies vital family support. Thank you, parents and families for all your support and encouragement!

Today, we hosted Tony Vaughan, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, who toured the school, meeting and spending time with our student subject ambassadors and on our school Farm with Animal Care students, before visiting Dance and Drama classes and taking questions from our Government & Politics students.

Mr Vaughan was accompanied by his constituency aide, Christian Perry, who completed his A levels at Brockhill in 2018 before taking up his place at university.

Throughout today, election contests for Head Girl and Head Boy have been taking place. Our Head Girl and Head Boy will lead our student council with representatives from every Academy Tutor Group and oversight from Mrs Eastham.  I look forward to their contribution to school life.

Yesterday, we hosted the Shepway Cross Country Championship at Brockhill for several hundred competitors. As ever, our PE and site colleagues ensured all ran smoothly!

Our A level English Literature students visited Stratford-upon-Avon on Tuesday and Wednesday, where they watched a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Othello and visited Anne Hathaway’s cottage.

And today, our Sixth Form Animal Management students visited Wildwood in Canterbury for a tour and careers’ talk, whilst Sixth Form Film Studies students attended a schools’ screening at the Quarter House in Folkestone.

The Walk

Punctuality and personal organisation are vital life skills, and we speak regularly to students about this. Where students are regularly late, this is disruptive to the teaching and learning of all.

Please ensure you can access the SIMs Parent App, and if you have any problems doing so, please contact us at office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject. In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

Please encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.

If you missed our letter last Friday, please note arrangements for next week and after half-term.

Upcoming Arrangements

Yours sincerely,

Charles Joseph

Principal
