Letter to Parents 25th October 2024

Dear Parents

This week, we awarded 1919 Excellent Effort points to students for submission of personal best home- and classwork assignments.

In addition, we are today sending 457 Gold, Silver or Bronze commendation certificates to parents of students nominated by their teachers for consistent effort and engagement with their learning, since September.

Where students are nominated by 1 or 2 of their teachers, we send a commendation letter to parents. Please do encourage your daughter or son to seek as many nominations from their teachers next half-term.

Behind all this wonderful work from our students lies a lot of love and support from parents and families. This is so vital, and we are truly grateful to you for this.

This week, I have met with our new Head and Deputy Head Girls and Boys following our ‘voting contests’ and absolutely not the ‘eating contests’ reported in last week’s letter to you.  It was an inspiration to meet with them and to hear about their plans and aspirations for the school and themselves. I am sure they also will be more effective proof readers than I!

Beyond the classroom, our Miss Porter accompanied Sixth Form A level Art students to paint a remembrance window in Hythe High Street, whilst earlier in the week on Monday, Mr Robinson accompanied a group of student reading volunteers to St Augustine’s Primary School. I admire the students so much for their commitment to others and my colleagues for their leadership and guidance.

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject. In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

It is of course quite possible for a student to receive Excellent Effort Points and SMS Homework messages during the same week and even for the same subject.

Please ensure you can access the SIMs Parent App, and if you have any problems doing so, please contact us at office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

Years 11 will sit Walking Talking Mock (teachers help) and Pre-Public practice (teachers don’t help!) examinations in the Examinations in the hall in November as part of their preparations for Public Examinations in the summer.

A little later on today, we will be sending you more information about our Sixth Form Open Evening for Year 11 students and their parents, which takes place on site on Tuesday, November 12th.  During the evening, we will be talking about post 16 applications and study in general and at Brockhill Park Sixth Form in particular.

A little earlier in the term, we held on site Meet the Tutor and starting out this year events for each Year Group.

If you were unable to attend, school leaders have prepared an audio presentation of what they ran through with parents on the evenings.

Please ensure your daughter or son keeps up their 20 minutes reading a day for pleasure over the holiday. Students who read daily develop their understanding and achieve so much more highly across their school subjects. Digital Library Autumn Term 1st half 2024-2025

Students will carry out their learning at home on line after half-term on Monday, November 4th. They will work on and submit assignments, which will be set in Google Classroom. We will look forward to welcoming students back to on site learning at Brockhill on Tuesday, November 5th.

Wishing all students and their families a lovely half-term.

Yours sincerely

Charles Joseph
