Letter to Parents and Students 29th November 2024
November 29th 2024
Dear Parents and students
Thank you for your support and students, for your hard work this week. Students had earned 3142 Excellent Effort Points by breaktime this morning. We are proud of them! And we know that behind each Excellent Effort Point lies parental and family support.
Beyond the classroom, 101 students in Year 11 visited the Centre of Experimental Military Archaeology in Detling on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, where they viewed a trench system and military artefacts from the Great War. Our Netball, Handball and Football teams were also in action against other schools this week, whilst our Music students put on a wonderful concert last Friday evening. My thanks to the students, staff and crucially parents for all the commitment and work, which goes into organisation of and participation in these events.
We send simple messages via the SIMs Parent App to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. We hope these messages sent enable a dialogue between children and parents at home about Homework and between school and parents where helpful. Importantly, though you need to be logged into the SIMs Parent App to receive these and other notifications. If you are unable to log in, please let us know by mailing office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk In Examination Year Groups, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.
Please see our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, which sets out expectations for homework in each subject.
Please also encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.
We send Weekly Revision Tips to Years 11 and 13 students and their parents each week. If you or your daughter or son did not receive these earlier this week, please let us know.
Year 11 Revision Tips – Monday, November 25th Year 13 Revision Tips – Monday, November 25th
It is important that students start planning a weekly revision timetable, if they have not already. Please do encourage them to do this and share their timetable with you.
Please choose a book with your daughter or son, if they are not currently reading one. Digital Library – Autumn Term – 2nd half
As the winter approaches and by way of reminder please see our Procedure for school site closure due to bad weather or other emergency
Some reminders around uniform: coats must be black or navy blue and only black or navy blue scarves may be worn in mid-winter; hoodies are not permitted and non-uniform items may be confiscated and returned to parents by appointment. Please check the uniform list and items, which are not permitted. Uniform List
We would also like to remind parents and students that mobile phones should be turned off and in the bottoms of bags during Tutor time and lessons. Students must not use mobile phones before break or lunch when use will be permitted. This means that mobile phones must remain in students’ bags when moving between lessons. Students must not wear or carry headphones or ear pods in school at any time.
Yours sincerely,
Charles Joseph
