Letter to parents 22nd January
January 22nd 2021
Dear Parents / Guardians
Thank you for your support of Home School this week.
The very large majority of students are now attending all their Live Online lessons and submitting their assignments in good time to their teachers. Our Guidance Managers are working hard to make telephone contact with all families this half-term, to check on student welfare.
From next week, we will be starting Reading Breakout Groups in Year 7. The Reading Breakout Groups will take place within a timetabled Live Online English lesson. In the week beginning February 1st we will extend this to Year 8 and the week beginning February 8th to Year 9. We very much wish all our students from Years 7 – 13 to undertake 20 minutes reading a day, as this is so helpful to their development.
If students encounter issues with sound when using Webex for Live Online lessons, then the following Guide will resolve these:
Downloading and Starting the Webex Client
As with all our Guides please download and save these – or ensure the students do - for ease of reference.
Please see the video based resources designed to support you with ensuring your children’s digital safety in the current circumstances.

In the week beginning February 8th, we will be asking students to carry out undertake tasks under test conditions in their Live Online lessons. We will be giving students plenty of practice in the meantime. We need to carry on building up students’ skills to work under test conditions, even in the current difficult situation.
For students in Years 11 & 13, undertaking albeit much briefer Pre-public examinations, will provide us with further information to support evidence for Centre Assessed Grades, evidence for which we may be called upon to submit. We had also made this a priority, following our return to school in September.
Next week’s WONDE system voucher in respect of Free School Meals will be activated on Wednesday. Please see our Parent and Guardian ordering document.
Daily Tutor Time activities are posted in the Google Classroom:
Monday: Literacy
Tuesday: Digital Library
Wednesday: Numeracy
Thursday:PSHE
Friday: Quiz
Students should access these materials and submit their work to their Daily Tutor at the end of each day.
We want all our students to remain safe by following the National Lockdown Guidance
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home
as well as to remember social distancing, hand washing and face coverings, so as to play their part in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Yours Sincerely,
Sonette Schwartz
