November 24th 2023
Dear Parents and students
We will be holding carol services during the school day on Monday, December 4th and Tuesday, December 5th at our beautiful local Saltwood Church. All students are invited to attend. Please see the information letter with full information and the crucial consent form, which needs to be submitted online by next Wednesday, so your daughter or son can attend. This week, more than 40 students have carried out volunteering activities in local primary schools and in the community, ranging from gardening at the church to IT support at the 101 pop up shop in Hythe, reading with younger students and attending intergenerational workshops. Our girls’ and boys’ football, handball and netball teams have represented us in matches against other local schools and have performed splendidly.
Amelia in Year 9 and Toby in year 10 performed really well in the Rotary Young Chef Competition in Hythe last night coming in at 2nd and 4th respectively, and today our student voice forum has met. We look forward to their suggestions.
As of 3pm, we had sent 3840 Excellent Effort points to parents in recognition of their daughter or son’s hard work. We wish to recognize every student, so please encourage your daughter or son to submit their personal best class- and homework assignments.
Dame Rachel De Souza, the Children’s Commissioner for England, has asked us to pass information to parents and students around the Big Ambition Survey. Students and indeed their parents are invited to take the survey, so the views of young people are heard. Message from Dame Rachel De Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England
We want to encourage all our students in Years 7 – 13 to read for pleasure for 20 minutes a day. Students who read daily develop their understanding and achieve so much more highly across their school subjects. Please choose a book with your daughter or son, if they are not currently reading one.
