Letter to Parents and Students 13th December 2024
Dear Parents and students
Thank you for your support and students, for your hard work this week.
Students had earned 1796 Excellent Effort Points for the submission of personal best class- and homework assignments by breaktime this morning. We will maintain our setting of Homework for all Year Groups right up until the end of term and for Year groups, who are sitting Public Examinations in the summer, we will set work in the Google Classroom for submission soon after the school holiday. Of course, we recognise the need for family time over the holiday and the amount set by teachers reflects this.

If you are concerned your daughter or son has not yet made a revision timetable, please encourage them to do so. Starting early is most effective!
It has been a very busy week beyond the classroom. I am so proud of our Year 7 netballers, who have won the Shepway title, as well as our Year 9 footballers, who won their fixture earlier in the week. I am equally proud of members of those teams, who did not win their fixtures this week, because if they hang in there and train hard, they will!
On Monday, our Young Farmers hosted Carols with the Animals with just under 100 people braving the awful weather to sing carols around our Christmas tree. Participants included past members and one family, which has attended every year for more than twenty years.
On Tuesday, 1130 Brockhillians attended the pantomime at the Marlowe Theatre- Beauty and the Beast. We were wowed by stunning performances, set, scenery and visual effects as well a lot of good humour! The Marlowe Theatre commented on the students’ excellent behaviour.
Wednesday saw 20 Sixth Form science students at the London Science Museum, where they viewed original models made by Watson and Crick of DNA, as well as models of haemoglobin. The students also visited the Natural history museum to view the new Jurassic gardens and Sounds of the Stream exhibition. And at school, The Christmas Lunch was very well received by all over an extended lunchtime. The catering offer at Brockhill is one of which we can be really proud.
Yesterday, Year 9 students visited the University of Kent, where they took the opportunity to hone their debating skills with the support of the Law Department and tour the university campus. And in the evening, our Dance company in residence, INSTEP showed through a splendid performance just how they continue to touch the lives of yet another generation of young people.
And today, 100 students in Years 7 – 13 have attended a performance of Puccini’s La Boheme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
I am immensely grateful to the teachers and associates, who make all this happen as ‘a little extra’ to regular classroom activities.
